SJF’s grantmaking spans a five-state region: Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. Historically, a significant portion of resources have been moved to large urban centers such as Seattle and Portland. The Mountain West Organizing Grant supports community organizing that builds grassroots power in Idaho, Montana, Oregon (the mountain west region), and Wyoming. Congratulations to our grantees:
Berry Medicine Native Birthwork Initiatives | Helena, MT
The Berry Medicine Native BirthWork Initiatives (Berry Medicine) addresses maternal, child, and family health disparities within Tribal communities across Montana. Berry Medicine facilitates strength-based, community-led efforts and works to retain and revitalize Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and cultural practices on pregnancy, birth, and parenting to improve health outcomes.
Black Liberation Collective | Meridian, ID
The Black Liberation Collective is dedicated to advancing racial justice, climate justice, and transgender rights by centering Black trans communities in the Pacific Northwest and rural Idaho. We prioritize accountability, transformative justice, and community-led solutions, ensuring that those most impacted by harm and oppression are at the forefront of decision-making.
Bozeman Tenants Education Fund | Bozeman, MT
Bozeman Tenants United is the city-wide tenant union in Bozeman, Montana. The union is building a multi-racial, intergenerational, mass-membership of poor and working class tenants to win safe, dignified, and truly affordable housing for all.
Idaho Organization of Resource Councils | Boise, ID
The mission of the Idaho Organization of Resource Councils is to bring people together to build grassroots power through community organizing, leadership development and civic engagement, and take action to promote and protect health, safety, dignity and justice for frontline communities, including farm workers, and directly impacted communities.
Indigenous Idaho Alliance | Boise, ID
The Indigenous Idaho Alliance envisions thriving, autonomous Indigenous communities grounded in cultural revitalization and sovereignty. The Alliance confronts systemic oppression, cultural erasure, and gender based violence, especially MMIP, through cultural rejuvenation, radical civic engagement, and decolonization. Their work spans voter engagement, policy advocacy, trauma informed cultural care, and abolitionist organizing, resulting in empowered Indigenous leaders, preserved traditions, stronger families, and systemic change.
Juntos | Cheyenne, WY
The mission of Juntos is to educate, organize and advocate with people of all backgrounds to eradicate discrimination and inequality in all its forms. Juntos is committed to building power at the local level to address unjust actions and policies throughout the State of Wyoming that target the immigrant community.
Not Our Native Daughters | Fort Washakie, WY
Not Our Native Daughters (NOND) combats systemic inequities and human trafficking of Indigenous people, supports MMIWR families, and amplifies Native voices to create lasting social change. To advance this mission, NOND established the Indigenous Youth Voices (IYV) program, empowering Indigenous youth through creative pathways for education, leadership, and employment while providing joyful, immersive experiences.
TANTA, Inc. | Boise, ID
The mission of TANTA, Inc. is to promote the wellbeing, safety and self-sufficiency of women and girls in priority communities through a culturally responsive approach. TANTA is dedicated to supporting an intergenerational network of women and girls who define and champion their own solutions to empowerment.
TransVisible Montana | MT
TransVisible Montana is a statewide collective of transgender, nonbinary, and Two Spirit Montanans with support from local organizations and communities. The collective provides leadership development, visibility, and public education through free and low-cost services to expand liberation for all. TransVisible Montana prioritizes and uplift transgender, nonbinary, and two spirit people through social media, community training, and consultation.
Two Powers Land Collective Incorporated | Bozeman, MT
The mission of Two Powers Land Collective is to honor their heritage as horse people by offering equine-assisted services rooted in Indigenous traditions. The Collective uplifts women’s leadership, promote social justice, and support youth and families by connecting them to the cultural heritage of Blackfeet horse people, the healing power of horses, and the Land in Two Medicine.
Montana Queer Alliance | Helena, MT
Montana Queer Alliance champions the health, power, and resilience of LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC communities in rural and tribal Montana by organizing for justice, safety, and access. The Alliance builds grassroots leadership through peer support, advocacy, harm reduction, prevention, and community-based mental health care. Their work centers those most impacted by systemic oppression, including queer and trans people of color, people living with HIV, and those navigating poverty, violence, or housing instability.
