Enbridge has a long history of safety, environmental, financial, and ethical issues including a 2010 spill of 840,000 gallons of tar sands oil into the Kalamazoo River; a negative financial rating ahead of this merger; a history of introducing rate hikes after new acquisitions; incidents of lawbreaking and taking advantage of rate payers; and a continued disrespect to Indigenous lands and private property.
“These are facts, not speculative fears,” Harvey said. “Taken together with innumerable other instances of safety and environmental violations, this merger is not justified by public convenience and necessity.”
SCSJ is currently challenging Dominion Energy’s proposed Moriah Energy Center liquified natural gas storage and distribution facility in Person County.
